The College Library is the hub of knowledge resources. The Dhemaji College Library was established to cater to the needs of the students and teachers of College. It is not only helps in supporting the classroom instructional programmes of college, but also unfolds the horizon of knowledge in regard to the research programmes. Our Mission is the set high standards of excellence in the preservation of knowledge and service provide to users. Various sections like ‘Circulation’, ‘Acquisition’, ‘Processing works’, ‘Current Periodical Section’, ‘Back Volumes’, etc are located in the library. The Library has a reference section and both short and long range reference services are rendered to the readers.

The central library has several specialized collections for reader, such as- Gandhi Corner, Human Rights Corner, Ambedkar Study Corner, Travel and Tourism. Women Study Corner, Wild Life and Fishery Corner, Medicinal Plants Corner, Ethnic Corner, Late Keshab Gogoi Corner, Book Bank for Poor Students etc.

The library follows the Open Access System. It practices the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme (DDC) and AACR-II cataloging scheme.

A practical orientation is provided to the students at the commencement of each academic session on ways to avail the different library facilities. The circulation system has been fully computerized by using ‘SOUL 2.0’ softwere

The College has a well furnished computerized Library with sufficient number of books, journals, newspapers etc.

Facility Available

Reading Room sitting capacity is 150 at a time, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) , Xerox and Internate etc. Issue, Return, Renewal and Reservation of books is done through the latest Barcode technology to all the library members. Online Renewal and Reservation of Books can also be made through Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).

Students and Teachers can access 9700+E-Books and 6000+e-Journals through N-LIST (Information and Library Network), Ahmadabad-an UIC of UGC. Students can collect the username and password from the Librarian.

Library Rules and Regulation

  • All bonafide students of the college are members of the college library.
  • Students must take Library Cards for borrowing books.
  • Two books can be borrowed at a time for a period not exceeding 15 (fifteen) days.
  • Books issued can be recalled at any time in case of urgency by the Librarian.
  • Library Cards are not transferable.
  • A fine of one (1.00) rupee per book per day will be charged, if the borrowers fail to return the books on due date.
  • Reference books, Newspapers, periodicals and question papers are not allowed to be taken out of the library.
  • Students are not allowed to enter the library without uniform.
  • Strict silence should be maintained in the library.

  • The reading room remains open during the College routine hours.
  • Final year students must return the Library Books before filling up the examination Form.
  • No student will be allowed to fill up the Examination Form without Library Clearance Certificate.
  • The Librarian shall bring it to the notice of the Principal, if any student is found to damage or misuse books, make noise or misbehave in any other way which will make the student liable to disciplinary action.
  • Books will have to be replaced from any source if lost, torn or mutilated in any other way.
  • Reference books, Newspapers, periodicals and question papers are not allowed to be taken out of the library.
  • The College Library remains open on all working days of the College.

In no case can a student keep a book for more than 15 days from the date of issue. If he/she does not return the book within 15 days, a fine of Rs. 1.00 (one rupee) only per day will be imposed. To give additional inputs and other related information Dhemaji College Library has a separate Reference Section for students and faculty members. To adjust with the recent trend of different competitive and service entry examinations, the College has introduced a separate Cell in the College Library from the Academic session 2009-10 under the assistance of the UGC. The Cell contains almost all supporting books and other related documents on different competitive and service entry examinations. It is an opportunity to have such valuable materials and information in a College Library on modern trend of competitive and service entry examinations and therefore taking the full advantage of it from the part of the student community is one of the main expectations of Dhemaji College.


The following categories of persons shall become members of the Dhemaji College Library by default:

  • All the faculty members of Dhemaji College
  • All the regular students of Dhemaji College
  • All other regular employees of Dhemaji College

Provided that a person other than the above categories may be allowed to become member of the library as a special case on a request in writing from the person concerned. The decision of the Librarian in this regard shall be final. If a person is allowed to become a member of the library he/she shall pay an annual membership fee and security deposit. All eligible members under shall fill up and sign a membership registration form available at the library.

Library, CECDC

Apart from the Central Library, Dhemaji College offers another provision of library services at CECDC, Dhemaji College. Students from different institutions along with the students of Dhemaji College can obtained the membership of this library to avail the opportunity of the services of this library at CECDC. In this regard all are asked to contact with the Principal, Dhemaji College. The Library, CECDC of Dhemaji College offers membership facility in this regard.

Departmental Library

Provision of Departmental Libraries in each department is another attraction of the College. These Departmental Libraries contain sufficient number of books for the students which are located in the respective departmental room. Students are free to avail the facility of Departmental Library under certain conditions/rules of the department concerned to fulfil their urgent academic needs.

Central Library Management Committee

The Central Library is managed by the Library Committee chaired by the Principal of the College with the HoDs’ of the various Departments of the college as members. The committee governs the functioning of the library and also allocates its annual budget.

National Librarian’s Day Celebration

Siyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (12 August 1892 – 27 September 1972) was a mathematician and librarian from India. He is considered to be the father of library science, documentation and information science in India and is widely known throughout the rest of the world for his fundamental thinking in the field. His most notable contributions to the field were his five laws of library science and the development of the first major analytico-synthetic classification system, the colon classification. His birthday is observed every year as the National Librarian’s Day in India. The Government of India awarded Padmashri to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan in 1957 for valuable contributions to Library Science. All staff of the College Library along with the faculty members paid homage and tribute to illustrious Guru Dr. S.R Ranganathan on occasion of National Librarian’s Day and observed the ‘National Librarian’s Day, 2016’ on 12th August, 2016 at Dhemaji College premises. Quiz Competition, Spot Slogan Competition, and Popular Talks etc. were some of the attractions in the programme. Students from different schools of Dhemaji were participated in the programme
